About Our Education Calculators

These tools cover the grading systems students actually get judged on: the US 4.0 GPA scale (credit-weighted, with the full letter-to-points table), SAT scoring as defined by the College Board, IELTS band math from the official scoring guide, and journal impact factors as computed in Clarivate's Journal Citation Reports.

One thing worth knowing before you calculate: grading scales vary by institution. A 90% is an A− (3.7) at most US schools but a full A (4.0) at others. Our tools use the most common scales and say so explicitly — always cross-check against your own syllabus or institution's published policy.

Education Calculators — FAQs

Do these calculators match my school's grading system?

They use the most widely-adopted scales — the US 4.0 GPA system, official College Board and IELTS scoring. But institutions customize cutoffs (some award 4.0 from 90%, others from 94%), so treat your school's published scale as the final authority and ours as the common default.

Can I use the GPA calculator for both high school and college?

Yes. The credit-weighted formula is the same; only the credit values differ. Enter each course's grade and credit hours and the calculator handles the weighting — a 4-credit course moves your GPA four times as much as a 1-credit one.

How is the IELTS overall band calculated?

It's the arithmetic mean of your four section bands (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), rounded to the nearest half band — with .25 rounding up to .5 and .75 rounding up to the next whole band, per the official IELTS scoring rules.
